Natalie AustinWebster County HighschoolNatalie is from Webster County and she applied to the Governor’s Scholar Program because of the good scholarship opportunity, curiosity about the program, and advancement her academic experience. Within the first few days of GSP, Natalie has enjoyed herself claiming that it is different from anything she has ever experienced. At home Natalie is involved in Golf, Tennis, Cheer, Student Government, and Dual Enrollment. In her spare time, she enjoys swimming, lifeguarding, reading, hanging out with friends and family, and attending youth group.

Emily BlevinsShelby Valley High SchoolEmily Blevins is a current scholar here at Centre from Shelby Valley High School in Pikeville. Although her focus area is Journalism and Mass Media, she aspires to become a pediatric physician and attend the University of Kentucky. Katie Anne BrownNorth Laurel High SchoolKatie Anne is from London, KY and is involved in clubs such as National Honors Society, BETA, Y-club, Student Council, Science Fair Committee, Autism Awareness Club, Pep club, and First priority. Katie is a competitive swimmer but also really enjoys soccer, a sport she picked up last year and enjoys because it’s a lot less pressure and loves playing with a team. She enjoys wake surfing and spending time with friends and family. Her favorite GSP memory so far was eating mac n cheese cups in her dorm with a new friend.

Loghan CurrinSimon Kenton High SchoolLoghan Currin is a rising senior from Independence, KY. Some of the activities that Loghan takes part in at her school include drama, dance, choir, student council, where she was elected Vice President, and Future Problem Solvers. Loghan would like to be a journalist on the modern technology side. This appears fitting because she is currently enrolled in the Journalism and Mass Media focus area in the Governor’s Scholars Program (GSP). In Loghan’s free time you might find her watching Netflix, creating content for her YouTube channel, or unleashing her artistic talents. Her favorite quote is “everything happens for a reason.”

He is extremely excited to be taking part of GSP, but hates to be missing out on his summer at home. In his free time he is an active member of Beta Club, National Honor Society, and the keyboardist for the indie rock band, The Anchorites.

Sydney HarperMuhlenberg County High SchoolSydney Harper, Muhlenberg, Kentucky native, is a 2019 Governor’s Scholar on the Centre College campus. Having been born in a small town, she is a bit wary of the large number of scholars attending GSP, but her roots in theatre have given her the outgoing personality needed to flourish during her time on the campus.

Mary Grace HemingwayOwensboro High SchoolMary Grace is from Owensboro, KY and is in the Journalism and Mass Media focus area at GSP. She believes that participating in this focus area will allow her to improve her yearbook at school. She describes herself as “observant, quick-witting, and organized” and has found people with a similar personality. She has met a lot of people at GSP so far.

Cole KidwellCampbellsville High SchoolCole Kidwell is a seventeen year old rising senior who can be found in the “Masks, Mirrors, and Frames: The Things We Carry.” general studies class. In his free time, he enjoys playing ping-pong, and you may see him frequent the GSP Ping-pong club. Cole is excited to make new friends and good memories at GSP, but wishes that breakfast was longer because the gap between the meal and his first class annoys him.

Zach OwenSaint Henry District High SchoolZachary Owen is a scholar from St. Henry District High School in Erlanger whose uniqueness stretches far past his extraordinary academic and leadership abilities. He strives to attend the University of Kentucky to continue to studying to pursue a career in sports-journalism. He is a captain of both the Future Problem Solving team and the Bowling Team, and is President of the National Honor Society and Philanthropic Club. Zach’s family life is also a shock to many; he has an adopted sister from Guatemala! His time at GSP is a life-changing experience for him and a gift for the GSP community.

Kennedy ParkOldham County High SchoolKennedy Park is from Oldham County and attends Oldham County High School. Her focus area is Journalism, and her general studies class is Love Made Visible. Kennedy primarily plays soccer competitively, but also enjoys playing basketball and running track. She is involved in multiple clubs, including NHS, BETA, Interact, Yearbook, and Biomedical Academy. She loves cookies straight out of the oven and Hershey’s chocolate, even though it makes her sneeze a lot.

Lakin enjoys spending time outside and playing her favorite card game, “Mau.” She shows everyone her volleyball skills in the many games that happen during free time. She is looking forward to friendship bracelet club, canvas art, dancercise, and Shake N Bake club.

Karly RickmennMayfield High SchoolKarly Rickman, a student from Graves County in Mayfield, KY, is a student at the 2019 Governor’s Scholars Program at Centre College. Karly is a very outgoing student, taking part in many school activities such as FBLA, Interact club, and the pep club. Although she spends her time in class at GSP, she is excited about being a part of the photography, friendship bracelets, and board game clubs, and meeting her new “GSPals.”

Lilly ShipleyBarren County High SchoolLilly is from Glasgow, KY and attends Barren County High school where she is involved in many clubs, such as Y-club, BETA, FCA, FBLA, and Pep club. A couple of her favorite things: blush pink, sweet tea, getting sunburnt, sunsets at the beach, VSCO, Western Kentucky everything (TOPS ON TOP), and really good belly laughs. Her favorite part of GSP so far is all of the friends that she’s made and the people she’s met. She is looking forward to all the lifelong memories she’ll make.

Her biggest goal for the end of the summer at GSP is to meet new people and continue the friendships she has made after GSP is over.

He hopes to make a lot of friends and learn more about himself while at GSP. In order to achieve this goal he plans to be himself and try some new things. The best part of time at GSP so far has been the awesome food served in the cafeteria daily.

Kierra WilsonEastern High SchoolKierra Wilson is a rising senior from Louisville, KY.This summer, she is getting out of her normal routine of field hockey and orchestra practice to attend GSP. Kierra was nervous coming into Journalism and Mass Media because she thought it was mostly writing, but she learned it was more than that very quickly. Kierra describes herself as “quiet, chill, and patient” and says she has met many people like her so far.
